Danny Brown: Live at the Majestic, a new music documentary launching via Apple Music, chronicles the rise and creative process of one of the most unique, eccentric and acute figures in hip-hop today, Danny Brown. The documentary invites viewers into Brown's life and tour days leading into his critically acclaimed 2016 album Atrocity Exhibition, with an intimate look into his life never before revealed. Featuring interviews with Danny Brown and his fans, footage from his early days as a rapper in Detroit and new concert footage, the film showcases his evolution from drug dealer into present time, as one of rap's most magnetic figures. Live At The Majestic examines Danny Brown's most formative points, from using the internet as the catalyst to start his career, the adderall induced recording process of XXX, and his return to Detroit's Majestic Theatre after his 18 month world tour for the first annual Bruiser Thanksgiving. The film was directed by Emmy-Award winning documentary filmmaker Andrew Cohn (Medora, Night School, Kid Danny) and produced by two time Emmy-Award winning producer Rachel Dengiz (The Punk Singer, Park Bench with Steve Buscemi, Medora) and follows a list of prestigious names in music that Apple Music has supported in film such as Sean "Diddy" Combs' Can't Stop Won't Stop: A Bad Boy Story, Clive Davis: The Soundtrack of Our Lives, Major Lazer's Give Me Future and more. The film will premiere to Apple Music's 30+ million subscribers in more than 100 countries around the world on November 7th.
Atrocity Exhibition, the thrilling third installment in the Danny Brown's discography debuted at #1 in the iTunes US chart and #1 in the iTunes US Hip-Hop chart, trending on Twitter after the surprise release via Twitter Q&A. After calling it Album of the Week, Stereogum said: "The tradition of art-weirdoes who arrive in the pop landscape and leave some permanent, paradigm-shifting mark: That does feel like more of a home for Danny Brown than any specific sub-genre or scene he could have been slotted into over the last several years." He has sold out shows around the world including opening for Eminem at Wembley Stadium and collaborated with an eclectic range of artists such as, Kendrick Lamar, Evian Christ, A$AP Rocky, Purity Ring, Rustie, Charli XCX, E-40, the Avalanches, Jonah Hill and more, proving that Brown was able to truly forge his own artistic lane.
The news comes on the tail of the announcement of Bruiser Thanksgiving 4, Danny Brown's annual festival to bring people and philanthropy (Inside Out Detroit) together for the holiday season. After three successful sold out shows, with guests ranging from Teklife to Joey Badas$$, this year's co-headliners of Lil B + Danny Brown and with the rave afterparty feat.
